Demonstrate the cultural significance of the Langreo community by showcasing the region's culinary traditions. To achieve this, the 1st Virtual Fabada World Contest has been created, an initiative that will allow attendees of the Gijón Trade Fair 2022 to compete for the best time in preparing this traditional Asturian dish.
Langreo is a municipality in the central Asturian coal basin. Due to its strategic location and demographic importance, serves as the main hub of the region known as the Nalón Valley. Nowadays, Langreo has been transformed into a new, welcoming, peaceful and friendly place, thanks to the drive of its people and the new initiatives created with the aim of giving a new boost to the local economy and enhancing social well-being.
The 1st Virtual Fabada World Contest, developed for the Langreo City Council, was an innovative initiative presented at the 2022 Gijón Trade Fair. Its goal was to showcase Langreo’s cultural heritage and highlight Asturian gastronomy. Attendees had the opportunity to compete in Virtual Reality to prepare the best Fabada Asturiana in the shortest time possible.
Langreo, known for its strong connection to mining culture and its rich gastronomy, is the perfect setting for this immersive experience. Fabada Asturiana, one of the region’s most emblematic dishes, reflects the community’s identity, which is also renowned for its cider-making tradition.
Within the virtual experience, the participants were guided step by step in the preparation of the Fabada Asturiana, following written instructions on the board. From lighting the fire to adding each ingredient and stirring the contents to achieve perfection, all within an interactive virtual environment designed to reflect the charm of a typical rural house in Asturias.
The experience has been designed with scalability and versatility in mind, allowing it to be used for future events, trade fairs, and exhibition spaces, maximizing its long-term value. This integration of innovative technology also helps to position Langreo as a modern and dynamic municipality, in line with efforts to revitalize the local economy and attract new opportunities.
